Musang King Durian is often revered as the finest durian. Like any durian though the smell, flavour and texture have some of the most graphic descriptions. The smell has taken on descriptions as simple as: sweet and musky, all the way to: turpentine, old cheese, onions, "sewer-gas," and a personal favourite, "ice cream in an outhouse."

Get pass the smell and fact that the fruit has the shape and weight of a medieval weapon, and you will discover one of the most unique fruit flavours nature has ever created. The flavour has been described in many ways, but to summarize: a rich, almond flavoured custard with overtones of hazelnut, apricot, caramelized banana, egg custard, and sherry wine. While many things in nature can be hard to explain, with durian it is as if nature took a swing at the culinary art.

One thing we can all agree on is that you can smell this fruit from yards away. You can also hot box a room for 24 hours with its smell. 

Preparation Ideas: Durian is nature's dessert, but if you're looking to go beyond eating it fresh there are some very interesting recipes. Use your Durian to make: soufflé, fritters, doughnuts, ice cream, popsicles, or into a cream for your coffee. If desserts aren't your thing then a Pengat or chicken and Durian curry are classics.
